Origin
Lanna Bush H3 was founded after a drunken conversation in early 2011 between Belly Dancer (Phuket, Chiang Mai Hashes)
and 4x2 (Phuket, BangkokHashes) who together believed there be a need to unite male hashers across Thailand to
run in what is the best hashing territory in Thailand – the Lanna area.
Belly Dancer then (stupidly?) took up this idea and enlisted the help of Skid Mark in
Chiang Mai, SoB (Man Boobs) in Bangkok, Namron and Able Semen in Chiang Rai.
From the beginning it was considered imperative that Lanna Bush H3 was a unifying hash and
not ‘tied’ to any particular city. A group of us (Belly Dancer, Skid Mark, HRA and Dogshit)
went to run with the Pattaya Monkey H3 (Run #31- Mountain View Monkey on 21 st May
2011), we enjoyed the format so much we adopted (stole) their constitution with some
modifications to suit our needs. After (too many) deliberations a LBH3 Constitution was
ratified by founder members; Belly Dancer, Skid Mark, SoB, Namron and Able Semen.
The Inaugural Run was held on 18th September 2011 which 17 hashers attended.
Runs
The Lanna Bush Hash is a male only hash with a trail length most often somewhere between 14km and 21km.
It's remit is to run in the area once known as “Lanna.” It's beauty is in its not being
restricted to hashing always in the same city or area, but as it involves road trips and
planning for such, as a practical matter, is held four times per year, roughly, once per
calendar quarter. As no Lanna member wants to do some road trip distance only to have a
30 minute run experience, Lanna Bush runs can be anywhere from 2 to 5 hours in length,
depending on what the diabolical hares can develop. The Lanna Bush Hash drinks beer
and members may be directed to sit on ice during the circle.
The Lanna Area includes northern Thailand, here defined as a line in the
south inclusive of Mae Sot (Myanmar border) Tak- Sukhothai Phitsanulok Na Heao
(Laos border) and north and including the closest cross border areas in Myanmar and
Laos. As a point of reference, before the state of Siam incorporated Lanna into the country
of Thailand, Luang Prabang and Nan considered themselves to be in what was called the
Lanna area.
Traditions
The Lanna Bush Hash is not the property of any one city regardless of how
many hashers may attend from a particular kennel. It is a Thai centric Hash of only male
membership and is composed of hashers from throughout Thailand (and beyond), with
their own various club's traditions, and thus, no one club has a lock grip on so called rules.
That said, there shouldn't be so many guidelines as to ex/include every clubs traditions -
the best working arrangement has tended to have as few guidelines as possible. A (male)
hasher becomes a member by attempting to complete as much as he is capable of his
‘virgin’ run (and is expected to complete at least one leg comfortably) after which he is
eligible to receive his moh hom jacket (embroidered with his hash name and virgin run #)
which is the only item of haberdashery Lanna Bush Hash considers denoting true
membership.
Logo
The Lanna logo represents LBH3 in some unique ways –
The Golden Triangle [Thailand/Myanmar/Laos – our running territory]
The red flag with white elephant is taken from the old flag of Siam and the tusked male
elephant represents our strength and endurance as male hashers.
The circle not only represents our circle after the run but the unity and kinship of male
hashers from across Thailand (and beyond).
